If you are lucky enough to have four days to spend there, you should use this guide to plan your trip right.

Our first place of interest is Plaza Mayor, one of the main central square in Madrid, which you should visit in the morning. Appreciate the Spanish renaissance revival design and architecture, go visit the close by local markets for some shopping and buy a cup of coffee at one of the cute cafeterias.

From there, it is best to go to the Royal Palace of Madrid. Visit it on your own to walk through this architectural wonder, and see the stately rooms and lovely gardens there. DO NOT TO MISS WHEN: changing of the guard – this takes place every day.

For lunch, sign yourself to a traditional Spanish tapas that are offered at the Mercado de San Miguel. This indoor market has got various eatery and preparations of different yummy foods and cool drinks.

You can dedicate the afternoon to enjoy the art and culture of Spain visiting the Prado Museum. Visit museums to see great pieces by Goya, Velázquez and many more artists. You should therefore try and schedule your visit at this museum early in the morning or on weekends because it is usually crowded at times.

Start your second day exploring Madrid by starting at the Puerta del Sol, the liveliest square of Madrid. Visit the grandmother of all symbols, the Bear and the Strawberry Tree statue and take a walk through the colourful street of Gran Vía.

After that, you would proceed to visit the Reina Sofía Museum that exhibits contemporary and modern art styles. Guernica painted by one of the greatest artists of all times, Pablo Picasso, should not be missed.

In the lunch time, why don’t you taste Spanish paella which is served at any restaurant over there. Or better, search from a friend or opt to look at the online reviews to know the best place to be in town.

In the afternoon, moving to Retiro Park which is the largest on in Madrid. Go for boat hire and gently move across the quiet waters or just take a sun bath in the forested shore. Remember to take a tour inside Crystal palace that is located in this park.

Day 3: Taste Spanish Food & Flamenco

The first thing you should do is going to breakfast in Mercado de San Antón. Wander through the fruit and vegetable stands, taste the perfect tapas and pick up genuine Spanish groceries.

Finally get up and stroll around the picturesque area of La Latina. Find out beautiful narrow streets, warm and inviting cafes and other architecture marvels & treasures. Visit standard tapas bars and enjoy different tastes of new food combinations.

In the evening you can get closer to the bright Spanish spirit up to the very night and passionate dances at flamenco shows. Flamenco can be viewed at any of the many theaters, auditoriums or night clubs in Madrid. Bask in the wonderful sights of dance, feel the music and get energised.

Day 4: Day Trip to Toledo

On your final day you should spend an excursion to the nearby city of Toledo. Toledo has mediaeval monuments and sites which make it acceptable to be referred to as a world heritage site.

Stroll down the old Gothic streets, enjoy the splendid Cathedral of Toledo, and admiring the splendid artwork of El Greco’s The Burial of Count Orgaz in the Church of San Tomé. Take a note that it’s also possible to taste the genuine Toledan marzipan, a kind of local sweets.
