Visiting the vibrant capital of Germany, Berlin, is one of the best things you can do when you visit there — explore the city’s bar scene. Bar wise it’s got hundreds of places to go and thanks to some amazing festival time as a freelancer, I’ve been exploring a bit more. So, in order to help you out, we’ve rounded up the Reddit users’ recommendations of the best bar area in Berlin. If you’re a craft beer buff, a drink in a cocktail bar, or just in search of raucous history, you’ll love these places as they sure will make your taste buds sing and memories to last a life.
Kreuzberg
There is lots of great nightlife and interesting bar scene in Kreuzberg, which is in the former West Berlin. The locals and the tourists alike love this multicultural neighborhood and you’ll find a great variety of bars targeting different tastes and budget options.
1. Oranienstraße
Kreuzberg’s Oranienstraße is a hall of fame-street lined with trendy bars, music venues and eateries. They get young and hip crowd and you’re guaranteed a good vibe all through the night. Saltwater Brewery serves up some great craft beer if that’s your thing! On site, they have a variety of unique and delicious beers.
2. Görlitzer Park
Another urban park is Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg, and it also happens to have some great bars on it. Villa Neukölln bar is one of the such bars worthy of visiting. A great place to have drinks, laid back atmosphere, friendly staff, and an awesome outdoor seating area. It’s got a great spot for everyone offering a variety of beers, cocktails and non alcoholic beverages.
Prenzlauer Berg
One of its beauties is the bohemian charm of Prenzlauer Berg in the eastern part of Berlin and of its trendy bars. Especially for the younger crowd this neighborhood is very popular and not in the least because there is so much to choose from when it comes to going out to bar-hop.
1. Kastanienallee
The Kastanienallee, also known as the casting Allee, is a street in Prenzlauer Berg with fabulous bars and restaurants abounding there. Prater Garten is one spot which one must visit. This one’s got a nice spacious beer garden and an extensive drink menu, which includes local beers as well as international classics, so it’s particularly good for letting the boys and girls out once in a while and winding down.
2. Oderberger Straße
Prenzlauer Berg also has another street of bars, and nightlife: Oderberger Straße. A swing to Clärchens Ballhaus is recommend for something different. Built in 1913, this is a restaurant, bar and dance hall with a British Northwest flair. You can hook up and dance the night away, try the best drinks or even take dance classes should you feel adventurous.
Friedrichshain
Friedrichshain, in East Berlin, is famous for its alternative edgy breed of atmosphere. A thriving bar scene with bars just as affordable and diverse as they come can be found in this neighborhood.
1. Simon-Dach-Straße
A lively street in Friedrichshain that is packed with bars, clubs and restaurants on Simon-Dach-Straße, often called simply “Simon-Dach Kiez”. Das Edelweiß is one popular bar you shouldn’t miss. You will never find a more rustic Alpine inspired interior, extensive cocktail menu, or regular live music events anywhere else than this bar.
2. RAW-Gelände
RAW-Gelände is an urban cultural and entertainment area in Friedrichshain that consists of bars, clubs and street art. Berghain is an excellent place to be — they’re well known for their techno music scene. It’s worth a try to get in, but note that gaining entry to Berghain can be notoriously selective and if it’s electronic music you’re passionate about, then you should do that.
