What to Do in Madrid for 10 Days

Welcome to Madrid! The colourful capital of Spain boasts about history, majestic architecture, delicious food and an exciting nightlife. Below is the list of the most interesting places and things to do in case if you have ten days to spend in this marvelous city of Spain – Madrid.

 

Day 1: Visit the Historic city of Mediaeval St. Jacob

Your exploration should start from the historic city center of Madrid or what is commonly referred to as the city’s Barrio:) The journey begins at Puerta del Sol, an emblematic public area containing the strong energy of the city and the clock. After that, proceed to the Plaza Mayor, a large square with some very impressive architectures and with many cafe and street performances.

 

Day 2: Visit the Prado Museum

Start to discover the art in the city by visiting one of the most famous art museums all over the world, that is the Prado Museum in Madrid. This museum holds numerous masterpieces of Spanish and Europe artists with painting masterpieces of Velázquez, Goya, and El Greco. It is also important to look at the art piece, Las meninas, painted by Velázquez.

 

Day 3: Enjoy Retiro Park

Take a lovely leisured day trip to the Retiro Park which is among the largest parks in Madrid. Visit the park and walk through the lovely gardens, find a boat and go through the Retiro Pond, and do not miss the visit to the Crystal Palace which is a modern Marquis of Salisbury glass house containing contemporary art.

 

Day 4: How to facerate Madrid with architecture

Madrid had been through a rich history and this is reflected on their buildings which range from medieval to the modernist. You should begin your adventures in architecture from this impressive construction known as the Royal Palace – the official residence of the Kings of Spain. Next, you only stand when gazing at the Gran Vía called Madrid’s Broadway where you will find gorgeous construction dating back to the early 20th century.

 

Day 5: Indulge in Spanish Cuisine

Not that it’s a grocery store, but a trip to Madrid cannot be made complete without making a culinary tour. Discover The Mercador de San Miguel a place for market lovers who have the opportunity to try real Spanish tapas and taste regional wines. You should not let a chance slip through your fingers to taste churros con chocolate!

 

Day 6: Venture to Toledo

It is recommended to go on a one day trip to the beautiful town of Toledo from Madrid. Located not far from Madrid in the North you can easily reach Toledo with is exquisite Gothic and moorish architectural and historical influence. The Toledo Cathedral is breathtaking – don’t miss its allure – the town is small with narrow streets packed with quaint shops and cafes.

 

Day 7: Explore Art at Reina Sofia

Next visit the Reina Sofia Museum where you will continue your tour of art with other contemporary and modern art masterpieces. Visit Picasso’s masterpiece Guernica and see more art works of other famous artist as Miró and Dalí.

 

Day 8: Shop in Gran Via

Have fun shopping at the Gran Vía Madrid, the city’s main shopping avenue. This is an active and stylish street featuring fashionable and luxury stores ranging from Western and local clothing, shoe and accessories outlets, department store, and theater. Taking a moment and refreshing at one of these rooftop bar to look at the vistas of the city.

 

Day 9: Experience Flamenco

Last but not, the least you should consider visiting a flamenca show to feel the heart and soul of Spain. This is a common characteristic of the flamenco, a traditional Spanish art that you can watch being performed in several theatres in Madrid.

 

Day 10: Visit the Templo de Debod

The timely end to your ten-day vacation should see you visit the Templo de Debod an ancient Egyptian temple situated in Madrid. It is a curious landmark which provides beautiful sunsets and calm atmosphere recuperating from the noisy city lights.

 

This is just but a flip-side of what Madrid has to offer. It is worthy to spend some time walking around the city’s districts that are Malasaña and La Latina that offers nowadays bohemian boutiques, various bars and taverns, true Spanish tapas bars. Don’t forget to taste the Spanish dishes, order a sangria, and enjoy the atmosphere of Madrid!!!
